2013:
This is the year that really changed my life. It started with that dream in 2011..
I dreamed i went to Australia, missed my flight and decided to never go home.
I had started my professional career in 2011 and was less than satisfied with the realities of really working. I had discovered I loved to learn, but once school was out, the real work was… disappointing to say the least. After I had the dream about Australia, I woke up with a new passion. I had never thought about that Country before, but suddenly I was fascinated by the country that is a continent and an island and has more things that can kill you than anywhere on the planet! I started reading Bill Bryson’s In a Sunburnt Country. I was at work one day when a grumpy older colleague noticed my book. He started chatting with me and for the first time in our working relationship, his eyes lit up with excitement. He told me how his brother had moved to Australia, and so began our newest way to pass the time at work.
One day, this coworker came in and slapped a newspaper printout on the counter. Rotary International was looking for 5 young professionals to go on a Group Study Exchange program to Australia! I didn’t think I had a chance, but applied for it anyways. I had to write an essay and have an interview and was selected to go! We had meetings to discuss the trip. I had to find photos to represent my career, family, and interests. We were going to speak to hundreds of people and have many experiences. Part of our process was to write a journal during the time for a blog… and I am thankful to have these entries to add to my life story.
To be continued...
